On December 10, 2019, the congress on railroads organized by the PTP was held in collaboration with the Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Provincial Council. The congress has gathered a total of three papers and a colloquium where the public has been able to direct their questions to the participants.
Public transport by rail is an indispensable tool for metropolitan mobility. On the first day of the “Future on Rails” congress, we talked about the history, characteristics and debates around our Cercanías services, operated by Renfe and FGC. Due to its energy, capacity and safety characteristics, the suburban railway is a key tool for the development of metropolitan areas. In Barcelona, the railway services of FGC and Renfe transport facilitate more than 600,000 trips on a business day. In order to raise awareness about the importance of the service, and to discuss the network’s challenges for the immediate future with the Low Emission Zone (ZBE) and later, the PTP has organized the “Future on rails” Congress.
This day is based on a cycle of conferences with the main actors of the railway system and two visits, one at the Renfe / Adif facilities and another at the Sarriá Operation Center (COR), depending on the availability of the operators (we will announce dates in advance ).
